Tell us all about you:
I’ve been a grant writer for nearly 13 years. I kind of fell into it during graduate school, first starting out in international development. In 2018, I decided to focus on US-based work and began consulting. I’ve been with Fox since 2020 and it’s been great working with clients from across the country in all different sectors! I’m a generalist but have developed expertise in education, affordable housing, workforce development, cultural preservation, and rural health.
Why do you love your work?
I love being a grant writer because I get to help people help their communities. There are so many amazing, dedicated professionals actually doing the work on the ground, day in and day out. I love that I can add capacity by translating their goals into fundable projects/programs. The absolute best part, of course, is when we win a grant! Especially for a program that’s urgently needed or struggling to stay afloat while serving people who depend on it. I also love that I get to learn about so many different sectors; it keeps things interesting and fresh!
If you were able to meet the founder or CEO of any non-profit, who would it be and why?
This is a tough one. There are so many great organizations doing important work. But the one on the top of my mind is Hani Almadhoun, who co-founded Gaza Soup Kitchen with his brother Mahmoud. Hani is actually someone I’ve already met many times — he’s a friend and former colleague of mine. He’s a passionate fundraiser and a man of incredible integrity and resilience. Gaza Soup Kitchen is one of the only organizations on the ground in Gaza that is able to reliably get food to people, even when the UN cannot. To say they are a lifeline is an understatement.
