From the CEO, Scott Fletcher:

As a CEO, leading the Down Syndrome Association of Jacksonville (DSAJ) fills me with purpose and gratitude. My journey is deeply personal—my sister’s presence opened my eyes to the profound importance of community, opportunity, and belonging. I believe wholeheartedly that when families feel supported and individuals with Down syndrome are embraced by their community, incredible outcomes follow.

My vision is for a Jacksonville where inclusion isn't extra—it’s the norm. Whether that’s children supported through early milestones, teens thriving in social settings, or adults confidently working and contributing—our mission is to break down barriers and sow acceptance.

What I love most about this work is being part of tangible, life-changing moments. The joy of a family meeting others on the same journey; the pride of someone gaining independence; the energy of our community coming together for Buddy Walk—it’s these moments that reaffirm why inclusion is vital and deserving of celebration.

Every day, DSAJ reminds me: when we empower, educate, and include, we build communities that reflect the worth and promise of every individual. And that vision—that inclusive, supportive future—drives everything we do.

About the Organization:

Founded in 1989 by dedicated families seeking support and connection, DSAJ remains the only agency serving families in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia from prenatal diagnosis through adulthood. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we are committed to helping individuals with Down syndrome achieve their full potential while fostering an educated, supportive, and inclusive community

At DSAJ, we offer a full spectrum of programs and services, including early intervention support, therapy scholarships, employment and vocational services, social groups, wellness initiatives, and training for families and professionals. Our tailored social groups — such as Lil Stars (birth to age 5), Shining Stars (ages 6–12), Teens (13–17), and Adult Groups (18+) — provide safe, inclusive environments where friendships flourish and confidence grows throughout the lifespan. Signature events like the annual Buddy Walk and Charity Golf Classic raise awareness and resources to sustain DSAJ’s mission while uniting community members in celebration and support
